Brothers & friends

One thing I'm really proud about is the relationship between my two sons. Unlike other brothers I know, they are very close to each other and spend a lot of time together. Sometimes a whole afternoon can go by and I don't hear a sound from their direction. They can be engaged in a game together, playing, solving problems, or they can each do their own thing without disturbing one another or invading each other's space. I especially like to listen in, if I can. When they are not paying attention I snick quietly and stand outside the room…the things they talk about are sometimes so funny.

Yes, they fight sometimes, they yell and even kick or slap, but I taught them from an early age that I don't get involved. They can come to me and I’ll say "please solve the problem yourselves". So they go and after a few minutes I don't hear them anymore, they are busy doing something together again and completely forgot about their fight.
The funniest thing is when they get mad with me or their dad. They go to their room and start scheming. They plan all kinds of things they would do to us. It sounds so terrible, but they are such good kids that even their schemes are harmless. One time they decided to hide all my shoes. We laughed for days after when we found shoes all over the house. Another time they wrote me a letter saying they are mad and please not to enter their room for awhile. So cute!

I made this layout in honor of their relationship, love and friendship. The journaling says: "You are such good brothers' playing so nicely together and always spend time together. Even when you fight you make up so quickly. I'm so happy to have you in my life; you brighten my day and my world".

Book worms

My two boys love to read books. I sometimes find them sitting on the carpet completely engaged in a book, reading. I can almost see them flying on the waves of their imagination to faraway places. I love this LO because it shows the two of them, not even out of their pajamas, sitting and reading.

The journaling on the little book is: "you simply love to sit down and read your books, atlases or even encyclopedia. You two are the cutest book worms".

Summer moved on...

Summer almost moved on here, but it’s still hot and I’m waiting for winter. Every year we try to do something fun to celebrate the end of summer or at least the end of the summer break (school year starts on Sep. 1st). This year we went to the beach for the whole day. We had such a good time and I took a lot of photos, I especially like these two photos of the sunset. When I saw them I immediately thought of this line from A-ha song: “summer moved on”.

I found in my Kiki Art stash a perfect paper for this beautiful sunset and I used Perfect Pearls around the circles and on the page to give my sunset a little more glow.

The journaling sais: “Summer is almost over and summer break is nearly finished. We celebrated its end with grandma and grandpa on the beach, had a nice picnic and couldn’t get enough of the water even when the sun almost set. What a way to end the summer!

A technique to share

I love using ribbons in my layouts, they are versatile and fun. In this LO I wanted to add a happy fun feeling by adding some flags. I wanted a different look for the flags and not the triangle shape that is so common now so I made the flags from ribbon.

It is very easy technique to do. Take a piece of wide ribbon and fold it in half. Attach together with a strong dry adhesive. Then cut the ribbon in a form of a flag. I inked the edges, "hanged" them on a string and attached to the page.
Here is the finished LO showing my two boys having fun with Grandma.

Make & Take

We celebrated the end of the summer in a big scrap party hosted by MY PUNCH – The Israeli scrapbook store. As a DT member I was assigned to do the make & takes. It took me a long time to decide what to do, because I needed it to be easy for the beginners, but challenging enough for the advanced, quick and above all practical and fun! So here is what I came up with:

Make & Take 1: Sign for the door

I don't know about you, but I needed a sign for my door saying: "artist at work" so no one will disturb me while I'm working.
Here's how it's done: take a piece of chipboard and cover it with pattern paper. Embellish with a lace ribbon and a button. I also cut a pattern from one of the papers and added some stickles to the button for extra dimension. Print the letters and cut them in squares, ink the edges and add stickles. Punch two holes in the corners and insert your string. Now you can work in peace!

Make & Take 2: Notice board

I always forget things. When I go shopping I make a list so I will not forget anything (sometimes I forget to take the list with me, but that's another story). I decided to make a nice notice board for my fridge so I can hang my list on it and update it during the week.
Here's how it's done: take a piece of chipboard and cover it with pattern paper. Ink the edges.
Add embellishments. You can replace the embellishment with a photo. Attach two clothes pins to the chipboard with strong adhesive. When dry, flip the chipboard and attach two magnets to it. Now you can write so you will not forget.

Happy new year

We are celebrating the beginning of the Jewish New Year: Rosh Hashanah, which literally means "Head of the year", the first day of the civil year in the Jewish calendar. According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person's fate for the coming year into a book, the Book of Life, on this day and waits until Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) to "seal" the verdict. During the 10 Days of Awe, in between, a Jew tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God and against other human beings.

One of my favorite customs of the holiday is sending greeting cards, wishing everyone a happy new year. This year I made 4 types of cards. In case you missed the other two cards you can find them here: Apple card, Sunflower card.

For the easel card I made "a field of flowers". The stems and leaves are made with Heartfelt Creations' stamps and the flowers are inked and embellished with buttons.

The Calla Lilies and leaves are made with Heartfelt creations' stamps, the stamens are made from a wire covered with yellow flower soft. The translation of the sentiment is: happy holiday.

Solving a problem

Anyone who has kids knows that there are a few fundamental problems in childhood. One of them is who will be the first to count at “hide and seek”. In order to solve this problem my two boys found an equally famous solution: “paper, rock and scissors”. I managed to take photos of the entire process and you can almost hear them discussing the situation, finding the solution and solving the problem.

This is a design I made for the Kiki Art DT. I wanted to tell the story in a unique way so I cut little birds, inked them, and added an eye and they are telling the story.

The translation from Hebrew is: the headline: “Paper, Rock and Scissors” the journaling that one bird is saying to the other: “What do two boys do when they can’t decide who will count?” and the other bird answers: “They think, discuss the matter and decide – paper, rock and scissors!”
